Time in the air (flight time)
How long both feet are off the ground between steps, in milliseconds.
- Pods needed
- Shin or foot pods on both legs (one leg gives an estimate)
- Usual confidence
- Medium what this means
What it is
When you run, there is a short moment after one foot pushes off and before the other foot lands when you are in the air. That is flight time, shown in milliseconds (ms). Walking has no flight time, because one foot is always down.
How we measure it
We take the moment one foot leaves the ground and the moment the other foot lands. That needs a shin or foot pod on both legs. With only one leg, we estimate it by assuming both legs move the same, so the number is less reliable.
Typical range
There is no "good" or "watch" band. Flight time is a detail number in the Stats tab and is not used for advice yet. It grows as you run faster and is often around 80–150 ms at easy pace.
How sure we are
Medium with pods on both legs; low with one leg. See how confidence works.
What you can try
Nothing to change on its own. Flight time moves together with time on the ground and steps per minute. If you work on those, flight time follows.
Good to know
Very short or zero flight time usually means that part was walking. The app labels walking strides and leaves them out of your running numbers.
