What it is

A stride is one full cycle of your leg: the foot lands, pushes off, swings through and lands again. Stride time is how long that takes, in milliseconds (ms). One stride holds two steps, one per foot.

How we measure it

A pod on your shin or foot records movement 100 times a second. We find each landing of that foot and measure the time to the next one. Steps per minute comes straight from this number.

Typical range

There is no "good" or "watch" band for stride time. It is shown as a number in the Stats tab. At easy running pace most people are between about 650 and 800 ms; faster running means shorter strides in time.

It is simply the other side of steps per minute: a stride time of 750 ms is 160 steps per minute.

How sure we are

High. Timing from landing to landing is very repeatable with a shin or foot pod. See how confidence works.

What you can try

Nothing to change on its own. If you want to work on your rhythm, use the advice on the steps per minute page.

Good to know

If your stride time differs a lot between the left and right leg, check that both pods are tight and in the right spot. A real left/right difference shows up on the left vs right page.
