Running form analysis, left and right, from the first kilometre to the last

ReadMyMove is a set of small motion sensors you strap to your pelvis and both lower legs. They record every step of your run, so you can see your cadence and step timing over the whole session, not just one average on your watch.

Where the pods go

3 pods, 2 placements

Running is where ReadMyMove started. Pods on your pelvis and lower legs capture every step, so you can see how your rhythm holds up from the first kilometre to the last.

  • Waist / pelvis×1

Sits close to your centre of mass. It sees your overall rhythm, how much you bounce and how your hips move from side to side.

  • Calf / ankle×2

One on each calf, just above the ankle. Each sees its own leg's swing and footstrike, which is what makes a left-versus-right comparison possible.

Honest by design

What you can see today, and what's next

We only call something a feature once it works. Everything else is labelled roadmap, and every number is an estimate until we have validated it.

Available now
  • Cadence (steps per minute)
  • Step timing across the whole run
  • Live motion traces and per-session charts
On the roadmap
  • Ground contact time
  • Left / right asymmetry
  • Knee-angle estimates (with thigh pods)
  • Fresh vs tired comparison

Why multi-point

Why one sensor isn't enough for running form

A watch on your wrist, a chest strap or a single foot pod each sees one point of your body. That is enough for pace, distance and an average cadence. It is not enough to tell your two legs apart, or to see whether your hips and legs keep working together as you tire.

With a pod on your pelvis and one on each calf, every step is recorded from three places at once, 100 times per second. The app lines the three signals up on one timeline. That is the basis for the left/right and fatigue views we are building, and it already gives you a much richer picture of your rhythm than a single number.

A session

What a run with ReadMyMove looks like

  1. Strap on. A waist strap with one pod, and one calf/ankle strap per leg. The straps go over whatever you normally run in.
  2. Record. Open the web app at app.readmymove.com in Chrome on a laptop or Android phone, connect the pods and press record. Today the device needs to stay in Bluetooth range, so treadmill and track sessions are the easiest way to start.
  3. Review. After the run you get charts for the whole session: cadence over time, step timing and the raw motion traces from each pod.

You can also start with a single pod on the waist for cadence and rhythm, and add the two calf pods later when you want to compare sides.

The metrics

Cadence today, ground contact and asymmetry next

Cadence is the number of steps you take per minute. It is one of the simplest form metrics coaches look at, and it changes with pace, terrain and fatigue. ReadMyMove shows it across the whole run, so you can see whether it drifts in the last kilometres.

Step timing shows the rhythm of each step. Irregular timing late in a run is often the first visible sign that your form is changing.

Ground contact time (how long each foot stays on the ground) and left/right asymmetry are on our roadmap. With a pod on each leg, they can be measured per side rather than guessed from one sensor. We will release them once they have been checked against reference measurements.

ReadMyMove is not a medical device. It doesn’t diagnose or predict injuries. If something hurts, see a qualified professional. Read more about the sensors and their limits.

The kit

Which kit for runners?

The Runner kit has three pods with a waist strap and two calf straps: everything on this page. If you want to add knee-angle estimates later, two thigh pods extend it to five (the Pro / Coach kit). Every pod fits every strap, so you can move them to another sport any time.

Prices will be announced before pre-orders open. Compare all kits or build your own setup.

Questions

Running: straight answers

Can I use ReadMyMove outdoors on a road run?

The pods record while you run, but today they stream live to the app, so your phone or laptop must stay within Bluetooth range. That makes treadmill and track sessions the easiest place to start.

Does it replace my running watch?

No. Keep your watch for GPS, pace and heart rate. ReadMyMove adds what a watch can't see well: how each leg and your pelvis move, step by step.

Is it a gait analysis?

It records the same kind of motion data that wearable gait-analysis systems use, but it is a sports tool, not a clinical assessment. It gives you and your coach data to look at; it doesn't diagnose anything.

Does it measure running power?

No. ReadMyMove does not estimate running power. It focuses on how your body moves: rhythm, timing and, later, side-to-side differences.
