Dance motion tracking: find the beat in your feet
ReadMyMove puts small motion sensors on your waist, ankles and wrists. They record your footwork, hip motion and styling while you practise, so you can see your timing instead of guessing it.
Where the pods go
5 pods, 3 placements
Bachata, salsa, kizomba or freestyle: dance is rhythm made physical. Pods on your waist, ankles and wrists record footwork, hip motion and styling, so you can watch your timing instead of guessing it.
Waist / pelvis×1
Your hips and centre: the sway, bounce and weight changes that give bachata, salsa and kizomba their feel.
Calf / ankle×2
One on each ankle. Each step and tap shows up as a clear peak, so you can see the rhythm of your footwork, left and right.
Upper arm / wrist×2
Arm styling and hand movement. Useful for solo styling practice and, later, for leading and following signals.
Recommended dance setup. You can start with fewer pods.
Honest by design
What you can see today, and what's next
We only call something a feature once it works. Everything else is labelled roadmap, and every number is an estimate until we have validated it.
- Step count and step timing
- Live motion traces for hips, feet and arms
- Per-session charts to replay a practice
- Beat and timing feedback against the music
- Dance-style recognition
- Partner sessions side by side
Why sensors
Mirrors and video show the shape. Sensors show the timing.
A mirror tells you what a step looks like. Video lets you replay it. Neither tells you exactly when your weight changed, whether the tap on 4 and 8 was early, or whether your left and right sides move the same way. Those are timing questions, and timing is where most social dancers want to improve.
Motion sensors record movement 100 times per second. With pods on your waist and both ankles, each step becomes a visible event on one timeline, together with your hip motion. That is the raw material for the timing feedback we are building.
A practice session
How a practice with ReadMyMove works
- Strap on. A waist strap, two ankle straps and, if you want to see styling, two wrist straps. They fit over dance clothes and don’t need special shoes.
- Record. Open app.readmymove.com in Chrome on a laptop or Android phone, connect your pods and record a song, a drill or a whole practice.
- Replay. Scroll through the motion traces and step timing for each pod. Compare today’s basic with last week’s.
Practising solo at home is the easiest way to start: put on a track, dance your basics and look at the rhythm of your steps afterwards.
Styles
Bachata, salsa, kizomba and beyond
Bachata has a clear 4-count pattern with a tap or hip accent on 4 and 8. Ankle pods make the steps and taps visible; the waist pod shows the hip motion.
Salsa is faster and built on quick-quick-slow, with the break step on 1 (On1) or 2 (On2). Step timing shows where your breaks land.
Kizomba is slower and smoother, with weight transfers that are easier to feel than to see. The waist pod is the key sensor here.
The same pods work for hip-hop, freestyle and other styles. Dance-style recognition and beat feedback against the music are on our roadmap; today you get the motion and step-timing data to look at yourself or with your teacher.
The kit
Which kit for dancers?
For footwork and hips, the Runner kit (waist plus two ankle pods) already covers the basics. Add two wrist pods for styling: five pods in total, which is the recommended dance setup on this page. Every pod fits every strap.
Prices will be announced before pre-orders open. Build a dance setup or compare all kits.
Questions
Dance: straight answers
Does it tell me if I'm on beat?
Not yet. Beat and timing feedback against the music is on our roadmap. Today ReadMyMove records your steps and hip motion with precise timing, so you can see your rhythm and compare sessions.
Can I wear the pods at a social or a class?
Yes, the straps fit over normal dance clothes. Today the pods stream live to the app, so your phone or laptop needs to stay within Bluetooth range, which suits practice and classes best.
Can my partner and I both wear pods?
Partner sessions side by side are on our roadmap. Today the app and its charts are designed for one dancer at a time.
Will it recognise my dance style?
Dance-style recognition (for example telling bachata from salsa) is a roadmap feature. We will only call it a feature once it works reliably.
