Left vs right (symmetry)
How similar your left and right leg are, shown on a gauge where the centre means even.
- Pods needed
- Pods on both shins (both thighs add knee angles)
- Usual confidence
- Medium what this means
What it is
Nobody runs perfectly evenly. This finding compares your left and right leg on several numbers, such as time on the ground, where your foot lands and the knee angles, and shows the biggest difference. The gauge centre is even; the marker leans to the side that is different.
How we measure it
We take the middle value (median) for each leg over the run and compare them:
- For times and rates: the difference as a percentage of the average. Example: left 250 ms, right 280 ms → 11 %.
- For angles: the difference in degrees.
This needs matching pods on both legs.
Typical range
| Band | Times and rates | Angles |
|---|---|---|
| Good | 10 % or less | 3° or less |
| Watch | more than 10 % | more than 3° |
A 1–10 % difference is common. Above that it stays at "watch" (outside the typical range), never "Work on". The 10 % line is a convention, not a proven limit.
How sure we are
Medium. A pod that is looser or placed differently on one leg can create a difference that isn't real. See how confidence works.
What you can try
By default, nothing: watch the trend over several runs. If you want, try simple single-leg balance and strength tests on each side.
Good to know
Before reading too much into a difference, check that both pods sit at the same height and the straps are equally tight.
